Senior Director, Head of PBS Digital Studios

PBS Digital Studios develops & curates multiplatform programming that connects, inspires, and cultivates the next generation of PBS viewers. 

Leadership and Strategy

  • Serve as Executive-In-Charge of PBS’s original digital programming, leading strategy and operations, and managing audience development integration with responsibility for programming’s adherence to PBS Editorial Standards, and third-party platform best practices.

  • Lead and motivate an internal team with direct reports, consultants, and an extended external network of production partners and talent, member stations, and other vendors.

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that upholds PBS’s values and goals.

  • Drive PBS business goals through a strategic, integrated programming calendar featuring projects for distribution and/or consumer revenue business models.

  • Work cross-functionally with PBS Programming editorial leads, PBS Digital & Marketing, PBS Foundation, Corporate Communications, and other PBS departments to maximize resources to deliver best-in-class digital-first experiences to new and expanding audiences.

  • Manage digital transformation efforts and build digital capacity within the PBS system by collaborating with PBS department leaders to align curricula, distribution, and measurement strategies to deliver scalable in-person and virtual learning experiences and increase member stations’ value and connection to their local audiences.

  • Work closely with PBS Member Stations to increase the production and publishing of digital programming, and enhanced community engagement across public media. 

  • Serve as a spokesperson for PBS digital programming strategy, attending speaking engagements, presenting at conferences, and conducting interviews to help drive media coverage, business development, and audience growth.

Editorial Programming and Audience Development

  • Oversee programming and development of digital-first video and social programming for newer, younger audiences that deliver on the brand’s iconic attributes and optimize appeal across multiple platforms.

  • Leverage audience analytics, digital trends, user behaviors, and other data insights to develop new programming and optimize existing content across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

  • Lead digital transformation efforts and build digital capacity within the PBS system by collaborating with department leaders and system partners on professional development programming through the creation of best practices resources, such as the PBS Digital Production Guidebook, presentations, workshops, and webinars.

Financial Management and Operations

  • Drive budget decisions and evolve revenue models, including grant proposals, sponsorship strategies that includes partnering with media buyers and brand product managers to sell against a large inventory of digital-first video content.

  • Manage deal terms with producers, talent, member stations, and other partners for original content and acquisitions across entertainment formats, IP rights, and distribution and/or licensing.
