Digital Media Executive & Strategic Consultant
Service-Oriented Leader, Committed to Inclusive, Accessible, Educational Programming & Digital Storytelling
I'm Maribel Lopez, currently Executive Producer of PBS's original digital programming. I oversee publishing operations and manage relationships with PBS member stations on behalf of PBS Digital Studios—responsible for identifying opportunities to expand reach and implement strategies to advance the legacy of PBS to the next generation of fans and supporters of public media.
Prior to joining PBS in 2021, I held several creative and leadership roles at Twin Cities PBS (TPT), including Executive Producer of Sound Field—an award-winning music education YouTube series—and Managing Director of Racism Unveiled, TPT's pilot multiplatform storytelling initiative about racism in Minnesota.
Beginning as a production intern at Iowa PBS, I've spent my entire professional career in public broadcasting, working across program development, production, marketing, events, and emerging media.
A frequent speaker and presenter, I’ve shared my experience and insights at conferences such as the National Association of Broadcasters, National Association for Hispanic Journalists, National Educational Telecommunications Association, VidCon, Northeastern University’s Reinvent Video Summit, numerous public media conferences and more. I'm most passionate about engaging newer, younger audiences to public media through digital journalism and storytelling, and developing and retaining public media's future leaders.
I'm a member of Poynter's Leadership Academy for Women in Media, an Aspen Ideas Festival Fellow, a graduate of United Way's Leaders United program, and have served as a panel reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. I have a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Spanish from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and I currently reside in Washington, D.C., with my dog, Benito.
